The Lady Bearcats got 24 points from Calvina Bennett in a 55-47 win, while the boys team fell 130-90 despite 37 points from Ervin Bennett.

    Steve Troxler, state Commissioner of Agriculture, lifted the ban "due to recent precipitation and lower fire danger," according to a release from the North Carolina Forest Service. The ban was also lifted in Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Richmond, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties.

  12. Employee charged in Rockingham Waffle House fire -Read the original story

    Police have made an arrest, charging an individual for setting a fire at Waffle House last month - though that person isn't who was initially suspected. Shari Shepard Lang, 51, of Whitney Lane in Rockingham, is facing a felony charge of burning certain buildings, for allegedly setting fire to the 24-hour eatery Oct. 16. Rockingham Fire Chief Harold Isler told the Daily Journal after the incident that the building was full of smoke when crews arrived on scene.

In addition to Anson, Alleghany, Ashe, Cabarrus, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Randolph, Richmond, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes, Surry, Union, Wilkes and Yadkin counties were added to the list.
