    In an effort to help the victims of the recent flooding in West Virginia, New Vision Free Will Baptist Church has been collecting supplies to take to Sunday Road Baptist Church in Hico. Wednesday night, New Vision members loaded up a stockpile of cleaning supplies, propane, bug spray, flashlights, batteries, mops, shovels, push brooms, pillows and pillow cases, ladies' undergarments, other clothes, paper towels and toilet paper - with some donations from as far away as Asheville - to take to the West Virginia town early this morning.

    Two people were sent to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a woman drove an SUV over the sidewalk in front of the old Richmond County courthouse. Denise McGhee, 62, was attempting park her vehicle when it went over the sidewalk and struck a pedestrian, nearly running into a statue, according to Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly.

    Police have charged a man they say was involved in a hit-and-run incident earlier this week that sent a teenage girl to the hospital. Chief Billy Kelly said Wednesday that investigators had nailed down a description of the suspect vehicle and that description was handed out to the night shift officers.

    They were shaking the branches to collect black cherry seeds for the the N.C. Forest Service tree seedling and nursery program, which has been growing native seedlings for landowners since 1954. Gordon said they have been collecting seeds from various trees that grow in the area, including bald cypress, walnut, oak, persimmon, hickory nut, chestnut and eastern redbud.
