    A road-rage shooting closed a popular stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Roanoke, Va., for much of Tuesday. A driver was hospitalized after he was shot at about 10:15 a.m. approaching mile marker 116, near Explore Park, in the Shenandoah Valley, The Roanoke Times reported.

To accept the low bid by Branch & Associates of Roanoke, Va., however, the county will need to reduce the bid by more than $3 million through value engineering and use of an alternate electrical subcontractor.

    The man accused of killing a UNC Charlotte professor last week in south Charlotte's Ayrsley community has been arrested, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police. Donny Lewis Franklin, 45, of Charlotte was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Monday and booked into the jail four hours later on a first degree murder warrant, records show.
