    The National Weather Service office in Riverton updated a flood watch for the Wind River Basin to a flood warning at 2 p.m. Saturday, noting that some moderate flooding is now or will be occurring between Dubois and Riverton: A healthy late season snowpack remains above 9,000 feet elevation in the western Wyoming mountains. Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected through this weekend with continued warm temperatures through next week.

    As part of the county-wide, multi-agency Click it or Ticket enforcement operation this past holiday weekend, Fremont County law enforcement issued 14 seat belt tickets, 6 child safety seat tickets and arrested 3 drunk drivers. During the four-day operation, area law enforcement made 660 traffic stops and issued 117 speeding tickets, 91 other tickets and issued 254 warnings.

    A routine maintenance program that shut down the navigation system at Riverton Regional Airport last Thursday unfortunately also coincided with a late spring snow storm here, cancelling flights into the airport. "The FAA scheduled this maintenance over a month ago and without the navigation system in place, and the airport ceiling with very low clouds, the commercial flights were impacted, especially for Great Lakes Airlines," said Airport Division Manager Paul Griffin.

    The Wyoming Water Resources Data System and the Natural Resources Conservation Service said the most recent snowfall in the Wind River Drainage increased the snowpack there to 304 percent of the 30 year median. For the Sweetwater River Drainage, the snowpack is showing a whopping 353 percent of average.

What might seem like an unlikely combination of commemorations was brought into focus by City of Riverton Public Works Director Kyle Butterfield's comments: "When we see a tree in Riverton we need to remember the hard work that went into planting it and when we look at it's branches we should remember the branches of the Armed Forces that protect us like the shade of that tree."
