Vandrake Investments, based in Franklin, closed Feb. 13 on the purchase from Charlotte-based Crescent Communities, said Benjamin Vanhook, project developer for Vandrake.

    Rhodhiss needs a new Public Works building, and the Rhodhiss Board of Commissioners told the town manager Tuesday night to look into pricing, land, design and other aspects of either buying another or building one. Town Manager Art Delaney said when he inspected the building last month, he found the walls are caving in and the structure is unstable.

    The fire that destroyed a 109-year-old house on Rhodhiss' "Boss Hill" on Jan. 4 lingers on the minds of members of Rhodhiss town officials. Fire Chief Will Dennis said the fire on Burch Street started after owner James Suttles put a load of laundry in his clothes dryer, which was heated by gas.

    Rhodhiss officials are teetering back and forth on whether to raise water and sewer rates another 30 percent because problems at the state level have delayed the grant money they are relying to pay for expensive and much-needed water and sewer repairs. But by holding off on raising rates, the town risks not having money available to fix a large break in the lines, Town Manager Art Delaney said.

    Mayor Rick Justice asked the town officials and residents in attendance at the Rhodhiss Town Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday how they could honor a former town clerk who recently passed away. Norma Kirby served as town clerk of Rhodhiss for over 40 years and passed away at 80 on Oct. 31. "I have contemplated, with that many years of service, she certainly needs to be recognized in some way, shape or form," Justice said.
