    I'm pretty sure this will be one of the first of many glowing reviews for Claire Vaye Watkins' collection of short stories, Battleborn - mainly because the book isn't going to be in stores in the United States until August. My bad; I didn't notice the release date until I'd invested too much into the book, in both time and emotion, to put it back on the shelf.

    On Tuesday, Aug. 22, in U.S. District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Gloria Navarro, a federal jury refused to convict four defendants tried for the second time over federal weapons and assault charges stemming from the 2014 standoff on the Bundy Ranch near Bunkersville. The Bundy family dispute over payment of grazing fees came to a head in 2014 when the feds came with mercenary cowboys to seize Bundy cattle.

    Peter Cytanovic, the University of Nevada, Reno student who participated nonviolently in the Charlottesville demonstration, has resigned from the Campus Escort Service because escort staff or student leaders pressured him, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal. A campus administration spokeswoman had previously said Cytanovic was in a work program where he rotated from one job to another.

    A few days ago, the Reno Gazette-Journal ran the headline "No spitting, sitting, climbing in downtown Reno under proposed anti-vagrancy laws." It was sitting that caught our eyes, but the only reference to sitting in the article dealt with sitting on the decks over the railroad trench.
