    A weather system traveling east from New Mexico brought periods of heavy rainfall to the Lubbock area on Thursday morning. Joe Merchant, National Weather Service meteorologist, said the rain made its way into the area around 6 a.m., resulting in moments of poor visibility and cloud-to-ground lightening.

    Monday has a slight chance for thunderstorms after 1 p.m., but overnight and into Tuesday there is a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms, and that trend could continue through Thursday, according to weather.gov. A sew of these storms could be severe and bring gusts of 60 miles per hour and hail up to 1 inch in diameter, according to the National Weather Service.

    A wind turbine fire north of Reese Center drew response from the West Carlisle, Shallowater and Wolfforth fire deparments. Burning debris falling from the turbine sparked some grass fires.
