About 9:35 a.m., firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene on the freeway at Kellogg Drive.

    Joseph Allen Tidwell was sentenced Thursday morning at the Joshua Tree courthouse, given the maximum penalty of 45 years to life in prison for the deaths of Search and Rescue volunteers Scott Johnston of Redlands and Phil Calvert of Mentone. Tidwell, 37, of Wonder Valley was arrested July 14, 2004, after a fatal collision killed Johnston and Calvert and injured four others.
