Town officials say the outbreak is believed to have begun June 23 at Kitty's Restaurant, a family-style Italian-American eatery that has been in North Reading for more than 65 years, according to its website.

    Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Reading Deputy Police Chief David Clark have confirmed an officer-involved shooting occurred Saturday afternoon in the area of Main Street in Reading. "We are in the early states of the investigation," Ryan and Clark said in a joint statement issued just after 7:30 p.m. Several police officers were on the scene of East Coast Gas & Auto Repair, a two-pump station attached to a large white home, was sealed off with yellow crime scene tape shortly before 7 p.m. An adjacent lot filled with vehicles was also blocked.

    The derailment came around 8:20 a.m. as Train 208 went through a misaligned switch between the two stations, said Keolis spokesman Justin Thompson, resulting in "a slow speed, upright derailment of the two leading cars." The 400 passengers on that train had to be moved to bus shuttles at Ballardvale Station, and the incident affected other trains on the Haverhill Line, he said.
