Well, as it turns out, the 6-foot 2-inch forward also proved more than capable of stuffing a stat sheet as well, as he did during the Mariners' 73-57 high school boys basketball road victory over scrappy Belfast on Friday night, Dec. 29. The Mariners received double-digit scoring efforts from Cooper Wirkala, Michael Norton Jr. and Trevor Reed, all of whom helped the visitors hold off the Black Bears with a 70-67 victory.

The Panthers finished 2-0 in the six-team tournament and claimed the Northern title with a 57-43 win over Madison in the finals.

    Having its first meet of the season canceled due to lack of snow seems to happen on a regular basis for the Camden Hills Nordic ski team, but this season was a welcome change of pace for the Windjammers. Not only did the high school team get plenty of local snow - as did much of the state - to train, it got in its season-opener at the Billy Chenard Memorial Nordic Race on Saturday, Dec. 16 at Sugarloaf.
