    Billionaire John Catsimatidis has withdrawn his request to distribute gasoline from his Riverhead oil terminal after neighbors rose up against the plan, but has not ruled out offering a more agreeable alternative. Catsimatidis, a New York City supermarket and energy magnate, sent a one-sentence fax Monday to Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter that read: "Please be advised that United Riverhead...     A religious zone established by Orthodox Jews in Westhampton Beach with the help of utility poles does not violate the separation of church and state outlined in the U.S. Constitution, a panel of federal judges has ruled. The zone, called an eruv, allows Orthodox Jews to push strollers, carry keys and perform other tasks not otherwise allowed on the Sabbath or High Holy Days.

Shawn Stockert, 29, broke into the East Quogue Fire Department at 465 Main St. at about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, police said in a news release.

Nancy Genovese, 58, who said she was treated like a terrorist during and after her arrest, was charged with trespassing on July 30, 2009, and was jailed for four days in lieu of $50,000...     A man suspected of using a credit card stolen from a truck on Quogue Plaza Trail to make purchases at a gas station and home improvement stores was captured on video surveillance, police said Tuesday. Suffolk County police and Quogue Village police said the credit card, as well as a stereo, were stolen from a Ford F250 sometime between Nov. 20 and 21. A man suspected of using a credit card stolen from a truck on Quogue Plaza Trail to make purchases at a gas station and home improvement stores was captured on video surveillance, police said Tuesday.

    A 21-year-old East Quogue man was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted rape after police said he accosted a woman leaving her job in Hampton Bays on Saturday evening, wrestling her to the ground before she fought him off.
