    A Wood County jury has sentenced a Quitman man who shot two oil workers who were trying to get on the then-sheriff's land to have access to an oil well to five years in prison. The jury found Jerry Wayne Boone, 65, guilty of two counts of second-degree aggravated assault on March 29. They handed down concurrent sentences of five and two years on April 4. Boone was arrested in November following a grand jury indictment.

    The National Weather Service says a tornado watch is in effect through 6 p.m. for Bowie; Camp; Cass; Delta; Franklin; Gregg; Harrison; Hopkins; Lamar; Marion; Morris; Rains; Red River; Smith; Titus; Upshur; Van Zandt and Wood counties. According to the NWS, grounds remain saturated in wake of widespread heavy rains that have already fallen since Tuesday.

    A crew with the National Weather Service out of Shreveport returned to East Texas to finish investigating a storm cell that blew through Wood County Sunday night. Usually they finish the job in one day, but since the government was shut down Monday, they could only go as far as one tank of gas would take them.

    The wreck occurred at Highway 37 at Clay Street and involved a Wood County Cooperative bus and two other vehicles. Quitman ISD posted on their Facebook page that the bus was not a QISD bus and there doesn't appear to be any major student injuries.
