    Twenty bald eagles were sighted by volunteers with The Last Green Valley during the annual Midwinter Eagle Survey Jan. 9. About 50 volunteers scouted 24 locations on the Quinebaug, Shetucket, Willimantic and Natchaug rivers, as well as 10 lakes and ponds where eagles have been known to congregate, the organization said in a news release. Due to mild winter temperatures throughout New England in November and December, the number of eagles cited was lower than last year, but the lower numbers were expected because lakes and ponds were not frozen over, according to the release.
