    Complaints from the community and a months-long criminal investigation landed a Prosperity man in jail facing multiple drug charges. A search warrant was served at 866 S. Main St. in Prosperity on Aug. 17. Once inside, the deputies with the Newberry County Sheriff's Office located nearly 2 ounces of crack cocaine, nearly 1 gram of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.

    Thirty-nine members of local African Methodist Episcopal churches and Lutheran churches gathered in July at the Hope Rosenwald School in Pomaria to watch the movie "Selma," engage in conversation to unpack the legacy of racism and discuss what it means to be committed Christians in the 21st century. "The Selma movie event was a beginning in which we have laid some of the foundation for building relationships across racial and cultural lines," said event participant Rita Boozer.

    Glenn Hamm, owner of Poseidon Supplies and Equipment at 125 N. Main St., and the work crew from Eight Acres Recycling never expected to uncover original lettering of the old Bank of Prosperity when working to remove the corrugated metal facade on the building last week. Discovered at the top of the building were the original hand-painted letters that read "The Bank of Prosperity, S.C." Leading up to the Depression, the economy was flourishing with the presence of banks.

    Newberry County Recreation, in conjunction with the YMCA, completed another year of Coaches' pitch play in Prosperity on June 8. Seven teams made up the league, sponsored by community businesses and industries and included youth ages 6-9. The team sponsored by Prosperity Metal Recycling, led by Coaches Benji Sease and Fred Hayward, was named the champion after defeating the team sponsored by Saulsbury Industries in the tournament championship game.
