    A fatal crash around 2:15 a.m. between a truck cab and a car on northbound Routes 1&9, at Pleasant Avenue in Linden, closed the road in both directions between Avenue C and West Grand Avenue, according to Linden Police, who at 6 a.m. expected the road to be closed for several more hours. The two occupants of the car were both taken to Newark University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

    In a final push to get a federally mandated emergency braking system complete by a Dec. 31 deadline, NJ Transit will cut 18 daily trains on five lines and offer a 10 percent discount on all fares. The cuts include eight trains on the Morris & Essex Line, four on the Main/Bergen Line, three on the Northeast Corridor, two on the North Jersey Coast Line and one on the Montclair/Boonton Line.

The 10:41 a.m. out of Trenton headed to New York Penn Station hit a trespasser near the Metropark station about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder.
