    Northeast Mississippi trails not only the nation, but the rest of Mississippi in many health measures, according to a new report from the Appalachian Regional Commission. The report, which was released Thursday, looked at 420 counties in 13 states, stretching from southwestern New York to Northeast Mississippi, that are served by the ARC.

According to preliminary figures provided by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the region's labor force - the number of people working and actively seeking employment - swelled to 231,040 in February, nearly 3,000 more than in January.
