    Catholic school teachers at two Staten Island schools staged a one-day strike Friday to protest what they are calling unfair labor practices by the New York Archdiocese. Instead of going to their classrooms, about 15 teachers from Our Lady Queen of Peace School in New Dorp, and a dozen teachers from Notre Dame Academy High School, atop Howard Avenue in Grymes Hill, walked up and down in front of their respective schools, carrying signs reading "Unfair Labor Practice Strike".

    Catholic school teachers in the the New York Archdiocese are taking strike votes at numerous schools with plans to engage in a series of one-day strikes over the next few weeks, beginning as early as Friday, union officials said. The Federation of Catholic Teachers , the union representing lay teachers in nearly 150 schools from Staten Island to Poughkeepsie, would not immediately name the schools for fear of reprisals against those teachers, but union president Julia Pignataro said there is a "good possibility" that one of the five schools would be a Staten Island school.

Born in Park Slope, Brooklyn, he moved with family to Mill Basin, Brooklyn, for a year, then to Grasmere when he was 4 years old. He attended St. Peter's Boys High School but switched to New Dorp High School for its music program, and graduated there.
