    A mid-June shutdown by the Lower Pottsgrove police and other law enforcement agencies of an alleged meth lab operating in a Buchert Road apartment forced drug offenses to the top of the township department's list of criminal violations handled during the month, according to a report from Police Chief Michael Foltz submitted July 2 to the Board of Commissioners. Ninety-four drug offenses accounted for 59.4 percent of 158 total criminal violations addressed by the department during the 30-day period.

    A $2,700 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be put to use through the end of August within Lower Pottsgrove to catch drivers running red lights and stop signs, failing to obey Pennsylvania's "Steer Clear" law, stop tailgating and speeding, and otherwise act against aggressive drivers, according to township Police Chief Michael Foltz. Other targets include drivers exhibiting unsafe behaviors that include driving too fast for conditions, texting, careless driving, and work zone Safety violations.

    A Pottstown man, accused of delivering an ultimately deadly drug combination last year to a Lower Pottsgrove resident, was sentenced Friday by Judge Risa Vetri Ferman in Montgomery County Court to spend 18 to 47 years in prison for what she described as "malicious cruelty and a reckless disregard for the value of human life," The Mercury newspaper reported . Ronald Charles Purvis of East High Street, Pottstown, who was convicted during an April trial, offered no reaction or comment to Vetri's pronouncement, according to a story by Mercury writer Carl Hessler Jr. Purvis' victim was township resident Kevin High, who witnesses testified was left to die of an overdose in a hallway outside Purvis' apartment in the borough.

    Drivers on westbound U.S. Route 422 will encounter left lane closures next Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. between its Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges as crews working for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation construct new medians in the area, the agency announced . The work is part of the continuing $73.3 million project to rebuild 1.6 miles of 422 and build new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove, it noted.
