    Shirk LLC , a pole building construction specialist based in East Earl PA, has won a $24,877 contract to erect the proposed and much-discussed addition to the Lower Pottsgrove Public Works garage at 1239 N. Pleasant View Rd. The company was the lowest qualified bidder for the job, and was approved last Thursday by the township Board of Commissioners. The township had hoped earlier this year to erected a self-contained office, work room and break area inside the cavernous, unheated garage at a budgeted cost of about $38,500.

Commissioners unanimously approved the appointment during their meeting last Thursday in the municipal building, 2199 Buchert Rd. Vecchio succeeds former zoning board member Robert Mohollen, who had served on the zoning board of seven years.

    Lower Pottsgrove was one of only five Montgomery County municipalities announced Thursday as winners of grants valued at more than $358,000, given to help local governments make "targeted physical improvements" that connect their communities, emphasize sustainability, and boost their economies, a county press release said . The township will specifically use its money, an award of $80,000, to install a so-called "green parking lot" at Gerald Richards Park on Buchert Road.
