    Thursday, kids in outer southeast Portland gathered at Portland Parks & Recreation's Parklane Park with Nike, the Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Parks Commissioner Nick Fish, Mayor of Portland Ted Wheeler, and guests to celebrate the beginning of the 2018 Portland Basketball Courts Revitalization Project. This three-year project, announced in June, will refresh and upgrade outdoor basketball courts in up to 30 Portland Parks & Recreation sites - including Parklane Park, one of the first to be revitalized - thanks to a more than $1 million donation by Nike and the Trail Blazers.

    Oregon's U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden today announced a five-year, nearly $28 million U.S. Department of Education grant to Self Enhancement, Inc. will serve more than 7,000 underserved students and families in Portland.     A new, searchable online map shows Oregon's communities of color are in danger of being undercounted in the 2020 census -- and flattened funding could make that worse. The map, produced by the Center for Urban Research at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York , highlights Census tracts where less than 70 percent of households mailed back their census forms in 2010 and also notes tracts with populations that are traditionally hard to count.
