    But at least Jeb did one useful thing by confirming once and for all that his brother's legacy is beyond redemption. Caucuses are better than primaries because you get to know your neighbors, talk politics, and beat them over the head in person instead of taking the cowardly route of destroying their mailboxes with a baseball bat at 3am.

Republicans seem to be waking up to the fact that the win-at-all costs strategy they've employed with a vengeance since President Obama took office has backfired.

    Signature gatherers have been swarming our fair state for the last several months in the hopes of gathering enough names to get a slew of referendum questions on November's ballot. By far the most obnoxious clipboard wielders were the ones lured into action by the promise of between seven and ten bucks per signature for a petition initiated by a real sleazeball who wants lightning to strike twice for him : Although it's not unusual for high-priced, contentious ballot campaigns to come under scrutiny, the casino bid is unique because it seeks to benefit one man: Shawn Scott, a gambling operator who cashed in [to the tune of $51 million] and quickly departed Maine after bringing gambling to Bangor in 2003.

    It's a fact of American life under a Republican Congress: Many workers must rely on ballot votes rather than their elected representatives to get improvements on the job. Though 2015 is an off-off-year for elections, there were still a few noteworthy ballot measures for workers, and as a result workers in one city will be getting paid sick leave, workers in another will get a minimum wage increase , and workers in a third saw a minimum wage increase slip out of reach.

    In the midcoast clean elections and bond issues for low income senior housing and transportation won, but in Portland raising the minimum wage lost. It lost decisively unless you take into account that Statewide there were 193,630 of 958,440 registered voters participating.

Citing the fact that the bras set off the metal detector, employees at Cumberland County Jail put in place a new policy on September 10 stating that attorneys visiting their clients must either remove their bras or forego their visit.
