    Madeleine Fraley's simple idea, to hand out a purple card alerting people to her husband Larry's dementia and asking for their patience, is the basis for House Bill 2835, which would task DSHS with developing a similar card as part of the state's Alzheimer's plan required by 2014 legislation. Fraley, of Port Orchard, was showing the card Wednesday, Feb. 2 to a photographer from The News Tribune when her husband Larry came over to give her a hug, causing tears to well in her eyes.

    The Washington State Senate voted down an attempt Wednesday to repeal a policy that allows transgender people to use restrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity. Supporters of repealing the administrative rule, which took effect Dec. 26, said it allows predators to more easily gain access to restrooms and locker rooms, while others - mostly Democrats - blasted those criticisms as unfounded and prejudicial toward transgender people.
