    No one was injured when the Port Townsend Rhododendron float exploded and burned just after it had completed participating in the Fathoms O' Fun Grand Parade in Port Orchard Saturday night . The float's royalty had departed the float when it reached the end of the parade route at the 500 block of Bethel Road in Port Orchard sometime before 8 p.m. Shortly after, the float exploded and caught fire.

    The Spokane Lilac Festival stepped up to lend the Port Townsend committee a spare float platform to replace the float that was destroyed by fire following the Port Orchard Fathoms O' Fun Grand Parade June 27. "We are so grateful to the Port Orchard community and festival, the South Kitsap firefighters, police, Goodwill and all the other festivals who showered us with love and support," the festival organization posted on their website. Goodwill donated three pairs of shoes shortly after the fire to the royal court, replacing those destroyed by the fire.
