    Electrical power was restored by about 4:30 p.m. Friday to areas put in the dark by high winds, the Clallam County Public Utility District said. Customers north of Port Angeles off Benson Road, customers east of Port Angeles off O'Brien Road and some customers in the Joyce Piedmont and East Beach areas were without power beginning at about 3 p.m., the PUD said.

    A Sequim man apparently in a hurry to arrive on time to court Friday afternoon slammed into a parked vehicle while attempting to pass traffic on the left shoulder, police said. The wreck at East Front Street near North Jones Street was reported at about 2:30 p.m. After speaking to Devon L. Rogers, 33, of Sequim and several witnesses, Port Angeles police said Rogers was in a hurry to get to court and was passing traffic in his white pickup truck on the left shoulder of the two-lane one-way street for westbound traffic.

    A March trial has been set for Ordez Eugene Kompkoff, the Port Angeles man who surrendered to law enforcement after a five-hour standoff near Joyce on Jan. 26. Kompkoff, 21, pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree escape, heroin possession and two counts of harassment-threats to kill. His trial was set for March 28. Defense attorney Karen Unger asked the court to appoint Dr. Ken Muscatel to conduct a psychiatric evaluation of Kompkoff.
