    A rabid raccoon bit someone in Poquoson in the Carmines subdivision of the city, according to the Hampton Health Department. Rabies is a fatal, but preventable, disease that is carried by mammals and has been in the wild animal population on the Peninsula since the mid 1980's.

    Personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety and the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a "water rescue" after the woman jumped and was observed drifting downriver. She was rescued shortly after 11am and taken to the Yorktown Riverwalk piers where she was transferred to an awaiting York County Fire and Life Safety Medic Unit.

    State Police say Lisa Maria Rubi, 32, of the 100 block of Bunting Lane in Poquoson, died early Sunday morning after the vehicle she was riding in crashed near Far Street in Poquoson. Rubi was riding in a 2000 Toyota Tundra, driven by Kendra Lyn Seely, that was travelling eastbound in the 200 block of Little Florida Road around 2:30 a.m. when Seely ran off the road and struck a drainage culvert, according to State Police preliminary investigations.
