    By Jeremy Weldon In an ongoing effort to clean up Panola County, the Board of Supervisors voted this week to purchase a new camera system, including car tag readers, to aid in the detection, and hopefully prosecution, of illegal dumpers. Emergency Operations coordinator Daniel Cole has been working on the problem for the supervisors since he was hired, and the board has tried a variety of game and motion-activated cameras to combat the illegal dumping in rural parts of the county with little or no success.

    By Jeremy Weldon The Panola County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to increase garbage collection fees for Batesville residents, and also raised dumpster pick-up rates $10 across the board. Solid waste department manager Jennifer Jackson made the recommendation that all four, six, and eight yard receptacles have the $10 increase.

Deputy Eugene Flowers responded to John Deere in Batesville where he observed the front door glass was shattered.

    By Ashley Crutcher Panola County Sheriff's Department received two reports of child abuse where one juvenile was allegedly held down and assaulted by her mother and two siblings and another individual claimed his daughter's injuries were a result of her trying to jump out of the window as he was diciplining her. North Panola School Resource Officer Kevin Leland was approached by an individual and her 14-year-old daughter who stated she asked her daughter to make up her bed and the daughter refused and began talking back to her mother.
