    Union County's unemployment rate was up one percentage point from April, from 3.0 to 4.0 percent. That meant our county was no longer tied for lowest in the state, but we are still in second place behind Rankin County, which had a 3.9 percent jobless rate for May. Labor market officials have said in the past that it is difficult to have a rate much lower than that because even in the best of circumstances, some people will be changing jobs or not seeking work.

    Pontotoc Police Chief Randy Tutor reported that the third and final suspect wanted in connection with the April 25 armed robbery of the McDonald's restaurant in Pontotoc was arrested early this morning in Chicago, Illinois. Chief Tutor reported that Kevin Lemont Alexander, 37, of Caleb Lane, Houlka, MS, was arrested around 7 a.m. in Chicago by the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force.
