    POINT PLEASANT BEACH - The council agreed to renew Martell Tiki Bar's liquor license Tuesday night over the objections of the borough's mayor and a lawsuit claiming bartenders over-served a patron who later died in a vehicle accident. "Point Pleasant Beach needs to care about this stuff," Mayor Vincent Barrella said in a phone interview after the hearing.

    POINT PLEASANT BEACH - Though Martell's Tiki Bar has agreed to a one-month suspension of its liquor license over a fatal accident two years ago, the borough council tonight will consider renewing the license for another year. Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Vincent Barella said a resident objected to renewing the license in part because Martell's did not contest the state's license suspension over the August 2013 wrong-way accident.

    The New Jersey Chapter of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' police force will be patrolling from Point Pleasant Beach to Seaside Park looking for dogs that might be in distress, the organization announced on its Facebook page. Pets found in cars will be removed by animal control and taken to a veterinarians hospital to be checked, the NJSPCA said.

    POINT PLEASANT BEACH - In the long-running attempt to curb late-night parking by visitors at its oceanfront, an appellate court said parking restrictions near Point Pleasant Beach's boardwalk are invalid. The borough council didn't have enough votes to introduce the ordinance on July 9, 2013, limiting parking near the boardwalk between 12:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. essentially to occupants of the homes there, the three-judge panel ruled in a decision issued on Monday.

The Asbury Park Press reports that 30-year-old Yusein Soler was charged with eluding, assault by auto by driving while intoxicated and endangering an injured victim.

    Jim Dowd's troubled tenure as coach of the Manasquan - Point Pleasant Beach co-op ice hockey team is officially over. The former New Jersey Devils great and one-time Brick Township High star confirmed Tuesday that he is not returning to the bench after one tumultuous season marred by an allegation Dowd struck a player with his foot during an incident that occurred at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall on Jan. 7. Dowd was cleared of a simple assault charge in May, when Municipal Court Judge Joseph Defino said that Dowd did use his foot to touch the 16-year-old player, but did not do so recklessly, purposely or knowingly.
