Rodney Coleman, 45, of Pleasant Prairie, is on trial this week for attempted first-degree homicide, accused of shooting Kenosha resident Kendall Woods as Woods arrived for work at TCF Bank, 2020 22nd Ave., on Oct. 28, 2016.

    The Village Board has unanimously approved the purchase for 72 acres of land at Springbrook Road in a move to boost plans for Village Green Center, the municipality's proposed downtown hub. The $3.7 million purchase, a deal it made with property owners Mount Pleasant LLC and developer Lakes Development Company, was approved at the board's meeting Monday night.

    The 2019 Pleasant Prairie tax levy is likely to rise $409,353 over last year, an increase that will also be reflected in property taxes as assessed village values have been adjusted, according to the proposed budget presented to the Village Board Monday night. For next year the levy is expected to rise to $12,292,605, compared with this year's $11,883,252, a 3.44 percent increase, nearly the same hike as a year ago, according to a presentation by Pleasant Prairie Finance Director Kathleen Goessl.

    When two armed suspects fled police into a field in Bristol last week, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department used a reverse 911 system to attempt to alert residents in the area of the potential danger, but learned many people never received the call. Lt. Horace Staples, director of Kenosha County Emergency Management, said he sent out the alert at 1:06 a.m. the day of the manhunt, and said the call went to 242 customers in the area.
