    In the wake of the mass shooting that left 58 dead in Las Vegas last week, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission began talking to regulators in other states about what casinos can do to prevent or respond to shootings and terrorist attacks. At least three of the state's top gaming regulators were in Las Vegas for an industry conference that began the morning after the Oct. 1 mass shooting and said at Thursday's commission meeting that casino safety was at the forefront of everyone's mind.

Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, the only gambling facility to open under the state's six-year-old expanded gaming law, generated $15.5 million in gross gaming revenue in July from a record $194.6 million in wagers, according to the company's revenue report.

    The Massachusetts Gaming Commission levied a $65,000 fine upon Plainridge Park Casino for repeatedly not complying with minimum security staffing requirements at the Plainville slots parlor. Between Dec. 26, 2016, and Jan. 7, 2017, and again on Jan. 14, 2017, agents from the commission's Investigations and Enforcement Bureau reviewed Plainridge's security staffing levels.

Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, the first and so far only gambling facility to open under a six-year-old expanded gaming law, generated $14,305,671.75 in gross gaming revenue in April from $174,811,169.76 in wagers.

    The state's slots parlor generated more than $14.1 million in revenue last month, the facility's third best month on the books, with $6.95 million of it going to local aid or a horse-racing fund, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced Tuesday. Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, the first and so far only gambling facility to open under the 2011 expanded gaming law, generated $14,179,600.25 in gross gaming revenue in March from $179,900,219.65 in wagers.

    A federal appeals court on Monday overturned a lower court ruling that had denied the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head the right to build a casino gaming facility on Martha's Vineyard, opening the door to another possible casino in Massachusetts. A U.S. District Court judge in 2015 ruled that the tribe failed to exercise sufficient "governmental power" over its tribal land and therefore could not operate any gaming facility there.
