The 5K was preceded by a fun run for the youngsters, with about 40 kids enjoying a jaunt through the field on the south side of the middle school campus.

    Fifteen-year-old Locust Valley twin brothers Nicholas and Matthew Rizzo both won awards at the 12th annual Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run held on the streets of Plainview on Sunday, July 19. Nicholas crossed the finish line at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle school in 21 minutes, 49 seconds, to earn the second place award in the 13- to 15-year-old age group, and brother Matthew was five seconds behind him to finish in third place in that age group. This year's Heart & Sole 5K was held in honor of the dedicated nursing staffs at Plainview and Syosset Hospitals.

The round-the-clock event, which begins on the morning of July 16 at 9 a.m., will benefit American Military personnel. A special ceremony that celebrates the event and honors both veterans and those currently serving in the U.S. military will be held at 6 p.m. on July 16. Shootout for Soldiers is a fun lacrosse event for players and teams of all ability levels and ages.

    After filing a lawsuit to delay the ground breaking of Country Pointe at Plainview, a group of Old Bethpage neighbors and one outside environmentalist are looking for financial help to take their case to the next step. The group says it needs to raise $5,000 to $10,000 to hire an attorney and legal advisor and prepare for a bond if they are granted a preliminary injunction on July 8. The five neighbors from Round Swamp Road filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court last month citing numerous failings in the Town of Oyster Bay's environmental review under the State Environmental Quality Review Act .
