    A 32-year-old Plains man being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center faces felony drug charges after he reportedly told jail officials in June he ingested an eighth of an ounce of methamphetamine that was hidden in his wheelchair. Edmond Ray Torres was served Friday with an arrest warrant accusing him of a third-degree felony count of possessing between 1-4 grams of methamphetamine, which carries a punishment of two to 10 years in prison.

    Severe weather season is off to an active start this spring on the South Plains, with the National Weather Service in Lubbock confirming about a dozen tornadoes since the beginning of the year, along with countless severe thunderstorms bringing large hail, heavy rain and damaging winds. Reports from early Monday showed a funnel cloud sighting in Swisher County during the overnight hours, with NWS meteorologist Steven Cobb saying the "very intense" supercell thunderstorm that triggered a tornado warning late Sunday had a strong potential for producing a tornado.
