    Daniel Kohut found a quieter life in retirement after the stress of a career in corrections, which hit its most traumatic and dramatic point 33 years ago when he interrupted a possible murder and escape plot at the state prison in Pittsburgh, and then was held hostage for almost six days. A long-time Brookline resident, Mr. Kohut found a spot in Central City, Somerset County, and spent time there with his younger brother, Stephen, and friends, fishing, golfing, hunting and watching his favorite shows on TV, according to his daughter, Mandy Kohut of Jeannette.
