    A cluster of storms converged and dumped between 2 and 3.25 inches of rain and hail over the region Friday night and into Saturday, causing flash flooding that resulted in two deaths in Silver City. Meteorologist Tom Bird with the National Weather Service in El Paso said the rain amounts were not unprecedented, but the fact that it came down so quickly and all fell in one spot is what contributed to the flash flooding.

Sous Chef Todd Crosby said he and the rest of the staff closed up at about 10:30 p.m. on the Fourth, and arrived for work the next day at 11:30 a.m. "I didn't realize anything had happened," Crosby said - until a co-worker walked into the office at noontime to take a phone call.

    A 29-year-old woman reported being kidnapped at gunpoint in Silver City, held for ransom and pistol-whipped, before paying $900, after which she was released and dropped off at her father's house in Bayard. The alleged incident occurred on Sunday, Feb. 26, but was not reported until Wednesday, March 1, according to a Silver City police report, when police were called to Gila Regional Medical Center at 2:10 p.m. in reference to an aggravated battery.
