Pink Hill Police Chief Joey Thigpen said witnesses saw the victim, Francisco Olivarez, walking down the street earlier and believed he was headed to a nearby grocery store before it closed at 11 p.m. The driver wasn't able to see Olivarez before the collision and stopped to help, but nothing could be done and he died at the scene.
