    Jeanne Higgins, the former top administrator in charge of the Stanislaus National Forest that covers 42 percent of Tuolumne County and 11 percent of Calaveras County, has a new job with the Forest Service in Washington, D.C. Higgins, currently serving as acting associate deputy chief of National Forest systems, has been promoted to assistant director for forest products. Scott Tangenberg has been acting supervisor for Stanislaus National Forest since Higgins began working on temporary assignment at Forest Service headquarters in the nation's capital in November.

    The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team is continuing its search for Charles Duston, 67, a snowmobiler who was reported missing Monday from Eagle Meadow. Duston, who has a cabin in the Eagle Meadow area, reportedly makes weeklong trips to the area, but did not return home Monday when expected, a Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office news release said.

The utility reported 1,228 outages in Pinecrest and 459 in Strawberry as of noon Friday.
