    The wife of a Salem man killed in an automobile accident in June of 2016 filed a civil lawsuit against the other driver this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. Joyce Miller, the executrix of her husband's estate, filed the lawsuit seeking in excess of $25,000 in the death of Stanley W. Miller, 68. The lawsuit notes Miller was driving a 2000 Chevrolet S10 pickup eastbound on U.S. Route 62 in Butler Township when defendant Paul Strawbridge, Bull Creek Road, New Waterford, allegedly turned left in a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, crossed the center line and struck Miller's vehicle.

    Bids for two Phase I projects, part of the village's $8 million water distribution upgrade, were opened at noon Tuesday in the community building. Four bids were received for plant upgrades while six were received for the much larger water line replacement portion of the Phase I work which could begin as early as November on the water plant, water tank and water tower.

    The Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury issued 21 indictments this week, including 12 secret indictments, which will be released as they are served. The following nine open indictments were also issued: Allen M. Sexton, 34, Norton, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, assault, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, obstructing official business and having a weapon while under a disability.
