    August 24, 2018 - Suffolk County Police officers rescued a man after his kayak overturned in Shoreham on Thursday, August 23. The Suffolk County Police Department received a 911 call regarding a man who was in distress after his kayak overturned in the Long Island Sound, approximately two miles north of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant at 11:52 a.m. Aviation Section Officers John Carey and Richard Davin responded in the police helicopter, located the kayaker and guided Marine Bureau Officers Steven Tarolli and Christopher Erickson, who were onboard Marine Delta, to the victim. Officers Tarolli and Erickson were able to pull the victim onto the boat.

A man was walking on Nugent Drive, when he was struck by a 2001 Honda Civic at approximately 11:20 p.m. on July 5. The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the Honda, Tyesha Powell, 31, of , was not injured.
