    Newberry High School held its annual athletic banquet on May 17 in the Scott Gym, handing out awards to student-athletes for their outstanding performance during their 2015-2016 seasons. Prior to the presentation of awards, those present observed a moment of silence in memory of Superintendent Bennie Bennett, who was killed April 17 in a wreck.

    The South Carolina Botanical Garden at Clemson University has been ranked 21st among the 50 most beautiful college arboretums in the nation by Best College Reviews. The 295-acre garden on Clemson's campus began as a camellia preserve in 1958 and was designated South Carolina's state botanical garden in 1992.
