    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has assumed control of wastewater treatment at the shuttered Mississippi Phosphates Corporation factory in Pascagoula, and is processing 2 million gallons of highly acidic, slightly radioactive, liquid waste a day. The factory, which began operating in the 1950s, produced fertilizer using phosphate rocks imported from China and other countries, and it produced sulfuric acid.
