    Mari Signum, a fairly new company with a patented technology for extracting chitin from shrimp shells, has found a home in west Jackson County. It tried to locate in Pascagoula, near the industrial east side this year, but the population was too dense and the notion of dealing with the smell of shrimp hulls too vivid, even though the company explained it has equipment to deal with that.

    Demetrius Howard, 30, and Patrick Thompson, 26, both of Pascagoula, were each arrested on charge of aggravated assault after the victim claimed the men shot him for no apparent reason, according to Moss Point Police Chief Calvin Hutchins. Hutchins said Moss Point police responded to a shots fired call in the area of Gautier Street near Fernando Avenue about 1:25 a.m. Thursday.

    A man arrested in Pearl River County was transporting eight undocumented immigrants, including three hidden in the cargo area of a compact SUV, an affidavit says. Emerson Isaac Hernandez-Turcios, 26, also was driving impaired while transporting eight people who were found to be in the U.S. without permission, a Homeland Security Investigations agent from Gulfport said in his sworn statement. 3 comments
