A half-century after dropping 70 pounds and keeping them off, Weight Watchers founder Jean Nidetch made some allowances: Cokes in her fridge, Klondikes in her freezer, the occasional potato or extra piece of bread on her plate. But she never again touched the chocolate marshmallow cookies she called her ultimate weakness, the treat she'd stash in the hamper and eat by the boxful in the middle of the night, all the while praying she'd choke on her next bite. Broward Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes, who has battled the County Commission that sets her budget, announced Tuesday that she will seek reelection in 2016. Snipes' intentions had been a big mystery for months - she repeatedly told the Miami Herald she was on the fence about whether to seek reelection and Democratic activists had no insight as to which way she was leaning. High school seniors from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties will receive $1,000 scholarships during the Carbonell Awards ceremony and show on Monday. The Carbonells, named for the late sculptor and award designer Manuel Carbonell, are South Florida's highest theater honor, but giving scholarships to students who intend to pursue degrees in theater or journalism has always been an important facet of what the Carbonell organization does.
