    An eleventh-hour defense appeal prompted a state judge Thursday to postpone until Aug. 18 the sentencing of a St. Landry Parish man convicted nearly two years ago in a horrific 2011 crash on Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge that killed an Ascension Parish woman, her three young boys and her friend. David Leger, 33, of Palmetto, who was intoxicated at the time of the wreck, was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday morning on five counts of vehicular homicide , but lawyer Jim Boren told District Judge Chip Moore he filed papers Wednesday night at the state 1st Circuit Court of Appeal asking the court to reverse Moore and order a new trial for Leger.

    The sentencing of a 33-year-old St. Landry Parish man in a horrific March 2011 crash on Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge that claimed the lives of an Ascension Parish woman, her three young boys and her friend/co-worker has been delayed until August 18. The sentencing of David Leger, of Palmetto, who was intoxicated at the time of the crash, had originally been scheduled for Thursday. He was found guilty in 2014 of five counts of vehicular homicide.

    A Palmetto man arrested on Tuesday has confessed to shooting and killing his wife and disposing of her body in a St. Landry Parish canal, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office. Sam Clark Jr., 52, of 243 Phillips Loop, was booked on a count of second-degree murder in the killing of 28-year-old Kimberly Perkins Clark, who died from two gunshot wounds to the head, the Sheriff's Office said.
