But despite the high heat, the result of high pressure aloft, temperatures will not be hugely above normal in many areas - around normal at the coast, about 5 degrees above normal in the San Fernando Valley and 10 degrees above normal in downtown L.A. - but it will be 10 to 15 degrees above normal in the Antelope Valley, where highs of 107 are expected today, said National Weather Service meteorologist Rich Thompson.
