Troopers said the man, whose name they had not released because they were working on notifying his family, was driving north on U.S. 19 shortly before 6 a.m. when his 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt slammed into the back of the truck just south of Alderman Road.

    A 2005 Chevy Cobalt plowed into the rear of a gasoline tanker truck on U.S. 19 at Alderman Road in Palm Harbor early Saturday morning, claiming the life of the Cobalt driver, authorities said. A 2006 Freight semi-tractor trailer driven by Norman Melendez Gonzalez, 37, of Tampa, was headed north on U.S. 19 south of Alderman Road about 5:49 a.m. The Cobalt, traveling in the same lane behind the tanker, failed to stop and collided into the rear of the semi's trailer.
