For the average residential customers in Millbury and Oxford, Aquarion's request would result in an increase of about 16.7 percent or $5.70 per month.

    The finished reconstruction of Route 20 in Charlton and Oxford will make the roadway a lot quicker and a lot safer, according to engineers attached to the project. Richard Kelly, civil section manager of HDR Engineering, and Allison Luff, traffic engineer for McMahon Associates, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the proposed project improvements, which include the addition of a “quadrant roadway,” a newly existing stretch of road that will connect Routes 20 and 56, and restrict left turns.

    Roughly a year after emergency road reconstruction was completed along a dangerous section of Route 20, the state Department of Transportation is developing plans for a $50 million project to extend safety improvements farther along the highway. The costly reconstruction project on Route 20 will begin at Richardson's Corner in Charlton and extend 3.2 miles east to Route 12 in Oxford, according to MassDOT District Highway Director Jonathan L. Gulliver, district project development engineer Arthur Frost and district operations engineer Barry Lorian.

    OXFORD – The building at 602 Main St. that housed Shagged Hair Salon and two apartments heavily damaged by a fire Monday will have to be demolished. Fire Chief Sheri R. Bemis said Tuesday that after an inspection of the building it was determined that although the upper apartments were not heavily damaged by the fire, the entire “building will have to be torn down.” The exact source of the accidental electrical fire, which was reported about 2:05 a.m. Monday by two men driving by, is still unknown.
