United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel says DeWitt was ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term, and pay $395,968.20 to eleven of his victims.

    "The pit bull was humanely euthanized," said Ottumwa City Attorney Joni Keith, who said it was done last Thursday at the request of the dog's owner, Christino Heine. Pit bulls are banned in Ottumwa, and Keith tells KWQC if Heine had not voluntarily euthanized the dog the City of Ottumwa would have done so.

    The owner of a dog that hospitalized a 10-year-old boy Monday was keeping the animal illegally, according to police. Ottumwa Police Chief Tom McAndrew states in a press release that the child was bitten several times by a pit bull "which resulted in injuries to his left upper arm and shoulder, left thigh area and his left hand."

    The Iowa Department of Public Safety says the two were arrested Monday and are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Court records say both have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled for a court hearing on Feb. 1. They were identified as 28-year-old Christopher Yenger, of Ottumwa, and 27-year-old Zachary Dye, of Council Bluffs.
