    Parts of the New York State Canal System remain closed to all boaters because of high water, excessive current, heavy debris and displaced navigational aids, all caused by the spring's heavy rainfall. Officials with the state Canal Corporation closed the Champlain Canal and parts of the Erie and Oswego canals July 1, calling them temporarily unsafe for navigation: - The Erie Canal, from Waterford to Oneida Lake, including Little Falls - The Oswego Canal, except southbound traffic on Lock 8 - The Champlain Canal In a press release, the coporation reminded boaters who are moored at a secure location should remain in place until the closed sections reopen.
