    A train slammed into a vehicle early Saturday morning in Ormond Beach, killing the vehicle's driver, police said.  Ormond Beach police spokesman Keith Walker said in a news release that the crash occurred at 4:45 a.m. on the Florida East Coast Railroad tracks that cross with Lincoln Avenue, just north of Granada Boulevard and west of U.S. 1. A southbound train struck the vehicle as it was crossing eastbound, he said.  The vehicle's driver, who was not identified, was killed at the scene.

    DAYTONA BEACH - A local flight school student was charged with DUI after nearly ramming a police officer during a routine traffic stop at the base of the Seabreeze Bridge, police said. Daytona Beach Police Officer Jermaine Jones stated in his report that he jumped out of the way at the last moment to avoid being knocked down by a "screeching" vehicle that had failed to navigate a left turn and failed to stay in the traffic lane.

    The 14-year old from Daytona Beach arrested in a carjacking at Ormond Beach Elementary School smacked the keys out of the hands of a parent who had come to pick up her child, according to a report released Thursday. Ormond Beach police spokesman Keith Walker said Shyheem Rainge ran up behind Carol Ziglar on Wednesday afternoon, knocked the keys out of her hand, then picked them up off the ground and then took off in the direction of the parking lot, the report stated.

Taylor, a former Daytona Beach city commissioner and four-term member of the Florida House of Representatives, pleaded not guilty on March 9, the day after the indictment was filed.  Taylor, 49, is accused of withdrawing cash in amounts ranging from $100 to $400 eight times from ATMs and cashed one check in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and Tampa, according to the indictment.
