    When the County Council voted in November to double the daily beach pass rate to $20, they also set April 1 as the date to have cars rolling across seven new entry points to provide quicker and easier access for beachgoers. Five of those ramps will be accessible starting Feb. 16. New ramps include: Seminole Avenue and Rockefeller Drive in Ormond Beach; and Seaview Avenue, Boylston Avenue and Zelda Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

    An armed, suicidal suspect barricaded himself in his Ormond Beach home for close to five hours - and was joined by his female companion for most of that time - until law enforcement convinced him to come outside and surrender, authorities said. Ormond Beach police responded around 2:10 p.m. to 279 Roosevelt Drive, located one block west of the intersection of Fairview and South Ridgewood avenues, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The DeLand Middle School sixth-grader outlasted her opponents in the 11th round with the final word “kabuki.” Meckley's triumph is the third in a row for her family - older sister Evie won in 2016.

    Police said that Michael Brock, 62, arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, stabbed Jeffery Lendway with an 8-inch knife. According to police, Brock owed Lendway's mother, Penny Coffey, $650 in rent but the woman told Brock he could pay $560.
